A proud moment for KCPSS Netballers

It was a very happy moment for the KCPians who won the game which was part of the Energizer National League 2008, against Dunman Secondary, 59 – 10 which was held at Kallang Netball Centre, 3p.m on Monday, 23rd June. Without the help of any coach Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Secondary School seniors, the netballers thrashed their opponent hands down. They had been training hard during the holidays, 8 to 11, 3 times a week and 3 to 6 on weekdays. This takes a lot of discipline and responsibility for the seniors to train themselves and as well as the junior team. There was a hunger for winning the match.

They had very good team work as seen from the match, when one player loses the ball or does a mistake, the whole team would motivate each other and say that “it’s ok, get the ball back”. With their hard work, determination, perseverance and motivation from their teachers and friends they managed to overcome each and every obstacle. There was good understanding and communication between KCPSS GA (Goal Attacker) and GS (Goal Shooter). They knew well when to shoot and when to pass the ball to each other. When one got sandwiched by the defender, the other would help her out.

The leader of the senior team, Liyana was being interviewed and one question we asked was,” what do you think made you win this match?” I was surprised upon hearing her reply, “The defeat of my team before this match made us work even harder. We lost to River valley 83 - 3.” Which team would still have the motivation to play another match when they knew that they were thrashed so badly? Most of the people would have a mindset that since we lost this match means most likely we would lose the next one too. But KCPSS Netballers did not have that type of mentality. They turned their weakness to strength which eventually had victory rose.

Although Dunman lost, I really think that they had put on a very good fight against KCPSS as they continued to preserve throughout the game, which was amazing.

Both teams did pretty well and most importantly they persevered, had determination and passion in the game and for the sport. It is really heart-warming to watch our own Singaporean youngsters having such good attitude, and in our Sports world, it is really nice to see the bright sportsmanship in the girls. Well done girls.
